Border to Beach for SA paddler in support of Women's and Children's Hospital

Six month old Jeremy Becker has been diagnosed with a rare and terminal disease.  KrabbeÕs Disease affects 1 in every 100 000 births and there is no cure.  The disease itself is an error in the genes that does not allow for proper nerve development in the brain.  In KrabbeÕs Disease the sheath that surrounds each nerve is not forming properly, thereby not allowing a full and proper message to be carried to other nerves.

In the later stages, children can lose eyesight, hearing and experience paralysis.  The brain stops functioning properly and shuts down, leading to death.  Young Jeremy has been given only a few months to live.

Beginning the 30th of June, 2005 Andrew Stace will be kayaking down the River Murray from the S.A. / N.S.W border to where it ends at the Murray Mouth some 650km away.  Taking just over 2 weeks he will be visiting towns along the way to raise much needed awareness and money for the Paediatric Palliative Care Service based at the WomenÕs and ChildrenÕs Hospital.  At present the service provides medical, emotional and spiritual support to over 30 metro and country families and their children and continued support to over 50 families who have already lost their children.

Join Andrew, on a section of his paddle from the NSW / SA border to the Murray Mouth, raising funds to support Paediatric Palliative Care at the WomenÕs & ChildrenÕs Hospital, Adelaide
