AUSTRALIAN CANOEING INC

MARATHON RACING TECHNICAL COMMITTEE

PROPOSED CHANGE TO THE AUSTRALIAN CANOEING MARATHON RACING RULES

PROPOSAL:

To amend the Building Rules for Australian Touring Classes to delete the Minimum Gunwale Beam limitation for TK1 and TK2 in section 6.2.

The AC Marathon Racing Technical Committee will make a decision on this proposal by 31 October 2005 and any change to the rules will be commenced on 1 January 2006.

RATIONALE:

This limitation is not required as the Minimum Waterline Beam serves the purpose of providing a minimum boat width.

The current rule is being met by the addition of ÒwingletsÓ which are acceptable within the existing rules, but do not serve any other useful purpose.

CONSULTATION:

The Marathon Racing Technical Committee wishes to canvas the opinions of the canoeing community on this issue and has placed this notice on the AC website to inform and request submissions from any and all interested parties.

The Committee has also written to a number of boat manufacturers and all State Canoeing Associations.

SUBMISSIONS:

Submissions on any aspect of the proposal are invited and all submissions will be considered. Submissions containing reasoned supporting arguments and documentation will be  particularly welcome.

All submissions on the proposal should be sent to the Secretary, AC Marathon Racing Technical Committee, c/- Laura White, Australian Canoeing Inc, PO Box 666, GLEBE, NSW 2037, or email to laura.white@canoe.org.au by 19 August 2005.
