EVENT SAFETY, REGISTRATION, SCRUTINEERING

EVENT SAFETY

i)    All canoes/kayaks shall have sufficient fixed buoyancy to float level when filled with water (The cockpit of a kayak or the gunwale of a canoe needs to be out of the water so that the boat can be bailed out.)

ii)  An exemption to the rules regarding the wearing of PFDs has been applied for through the South Australian Department of Transport. It is expected that paddlers in U16 classes and above will not be required to wear PFDs. Therefore SA legislation requires that all paddlers in Under 12 & Under 14 classes wear a correctly fitted PFD Type 2 or 3. Australian Canoeing also strongly recommends that all other paddlers carry or wear a PFD suitable for themselves.

iii) All boats must display the racing number issued at registration, for identification and, if     necessary, paddlers must state their number when requested by a Race Official.

The racing number is to be displayed in an upright position in a number holder that is

     securely fastened to the canoe/kayak.

iv) All paddlers must notify a Race Official when withdrawing from a race and hand in their number to a Race Official at the finish line.

v)  When a paddler is in distress, the first paddler(s) on the scene must render assistance.

Failure to do so may incur disqualification.

vi) The Organising Committee will provide power boats to cover the progress of competitors during the competition.

vii) All paddlers are required to attend the ÒbriefingÓ prior to the start of each race.

viii) Should a Race Official consider a paddler incapable of completing the race they shall have the authority to withdraw that paddler from the race.

ix)  River navigation rules apply to the race.  Oncoming craft shall be passed to the right at a distance that does not interfere with the other craft.  Failure to obey river navigation rules may result in disqualification. IN THE CASE OF OPPOSING TRAFFIC Ð KEEP RIGHT
