Kayak Lifeguard / Flatwater Skills Course – March 24-26…

Flatwater Skills and Canoe/Kayak Lifeguard (Flatwater Instructor (Level 1) Induction)

The course is a point of entry for paddlers into the Instructor / Guide area of the award scheme. This course generally conducted over three days covers the theory and practical components of the Flatwater Skills Award and the Kayak Lifeguard Award.

Assessment of the Flatwater Skills Award is included and is generally conducted on a day trip on the third day.
Assessment of the Kayak Lifeguard is not included however Canoe SA works actively with candiates to provide assessment opportunities for this award should they not be already involved in activities that may be suitable.

The course fee includes all resource materials and instruction for the course and the Australian Canoeing registration fees for both awards provided that they are registered together.

Equipment is not included in the course fee and if required will attract additional cost. Participants may bring their own kayaks providing that they are suitable for the course. Please contact the office to confirm suitability.


This course will be conducted over the weekend of 24-26 March plus one additional day to be confirmed.
The course will commence on Friday evening at 7pm with a theory session. Saturday and Sunday will commence at 8.00 and consist of a mix of theory and practical.
The additional day will consist of a day trip during which candiates may be assessed for the Flatwater Skills Award.
Participants will be required to complete some pre-reading and homework theory/planning tasks between sessions.
