Selection Policy 2007 / 2008
How to gain a scholarship in 2007/2008
Scholarships will be offered in the following categories: Gold Ð Open
Silver Ð Open
Bronze Ð Open, U23, U21, U19
*Note: No associate scholarships will be offered in 2007 or 2008
All Senior World Championship finalists (*Olympic distances only) will be selected as automatic Gold Scholarship Holders for the following domestic season Ð To maintain Gold scholarship status it is expected that athletes achieve the minimum Gold scholarship maintenance standards (see below) at all GP regattas and National Championships and attend at least two selection time trials.
3 prognostic / selection time trial dates to be conducted (1x 1000m and 1x 500m to be run at each trial) – West Lakes
Sunday September 23th Start time 8am
Sunday October 21nd Start time 8am (Canoe SA 2007 State Titles)
Sunday November 25th Start time 8am
Prognostic selection requirements
500m and 1000m prognostic times are based on 500m current worlds best times Ð times may be updated following any International Canoe Federation event.
Full SASI Scholarship
Gold Scholarship Ð 1% or less behind best squad prognostic (1000m and 500m average)
Silver Scholarship Ð 2% or less behind best squad prognostic (1000m and 500m average)
Bronze Scholarship Ð 3% or less behind best squad prognostic (1000m and 500m average)
4% or less behind best squad prognostic (1000m and 500m average) under 23
6% or less behind best squad prognostic (1000m and 500m average) under 21
8% or less behind best squad prognostic (1000m and 500m average) under 19
Development squad – Requirement for all athletes who have been in the SASI funded Junior
(Non-Scholarship) Development program for a period > 12 months.
10% or less outside best squad prognostic (1000m and 500m) under 18
12% or less outside best squad prognostic (1000m and 500m) under 16
At the completion of all three-time trials the athletes best 500m and best 1000m times will be used to calculate the athletes individual prognostic score (average) for the trial period.
How to maintain a scholarship in 2007/2008
Once an athlete has met the conditions of scholarship they are expected to uphold a suitable level of performance during the season GP regattas and National Championships Ð in doing so they will receive ongoing support relative to their individual scholarship category. If the requirements below are not achieved the athletes level of scholarship may be reviewed or withdrawn.

Under 18 events ÒAÓ finalist in K1, top 3 finish in
Athletes may be promoted to the next level of scholarship or be added as a new scholarship holder following any GP regatta provided the athlete concerned achieves the minimum selection standard listed below.
Scholarship additions and promotions
Gold Ð Top 3 finish in open K1 ÒAÓ final or win open
Silver Ð ÒAÓ finalist in open K1 or top 3 place getter in open
Bronze – Top 3 finish in under 18 K1 ÒAÓ final or win under 18 K2 ÒAÓ final *Olympic distances only.
Guide to financial assistance provided for Full SASI Scholarship Holders
Gold Ð payment of all costs (entry fees, Accommodation, Airfares at all GPÕs and National Championships)
Silver Ð payment of (Accommodation and Airfares at all GPÕs and National Championships)
Bronze Ð payment of (Accommodation at all GPÕs and National Championships) reduction in junior development squad fees for under 18 athletes.
