Sea Weekend 2007

Sea weekend 2007

This yearÕs Canoe SA Sea weekend was held at Victor Harbor on the long weekend of 10ÐMarch. The weather was not ideal, with a strong change coming through, but the conditions did add a note of realism to many aspects. We assessed one candidate for Sea Kayak Instructor, inducted several, and worked with others progressing to Sea Skills.

Saturday morning was spent on Encounter Lakes developing basic techniques. In the afternoon we moved to Beacon 19, near the Murray Mouth, to be away from strong offshore winds. The winds were no less, but noone would be blown out into metre plus conditions if things went wrong.

Conditions on the Sunday were wintry, now with strong southerlies and the occasional shower. Skills and rescue techniques in the morning, and short trips in the afternoon (with real rescues for one of them).

The kite surfers were enjoying themselves.

On the Monday morning we went to Middleton for the surfing sessions. Messy. At least Jim TownsendÕs dog enjoyed himself.
