The two Senior South Australians members of the Australian Flatwater team competing in the World Cup in Szeged seem to be doing us proud, finishing with some great results.
With testing conditions on Friday, the Australian members Luke Morrison (South Australian), David Smith, Luke Michael and Glenn Singleton proved to be a great combination finishing 3rd in their K4 1000m semi final. In the finals Australia were placed 9th over all, with Slovakia taking ot first place ahead of Hungary. This showed great improvement by the team since last year placing 4th in the B final at the World Championships.
The womenÕs K4 500 metre team consisiting of Chantal Meek, Hannah Davis (South Australian), Lisa Oldenhof and Lyndsie Fogarty fought hard to gain 4th place in the A final, just short behind of Germany team and two Hungarian teams.
Coaches Dave Foureur and Vince Fehervari were content with the outcome of the race as the team fell just 1.2 seconds behinf the winners.
A fantastic effort so far by all Australian representatives displaying positive results and especially the South Australian representatives Luke Morrison and Hannah Davis.
The event to put on your calendar, The World Championship Seniors, held in Duisburg, Germany on the 8th – 12th August 2007. It's what these two South Australians have been training for. This event is the Global Qualification Competition that qualifies paddlers for the Olympics.
