Environmental and Cultural Considerations

Environmental and cultural considerations

  • Dispose of washing water at least 100 m from watercourses, trails, campsites
  • Avoid using soap or non-biodegradable detergent
  • Use toilets where provided. If there is no toilet always bury excreta and paper in a 15 cm hole
  • Pack to minimise rubbish, and take your rubbish home with you
  • Use a gas stove for cooking
  • Respect wildlife
  • Be considerate of other visitors
  • Leave natural and historical objects in place
  • Respect Aboriginal cultural sites
  • If you come across a lifeless Pelican, Crested Tern or Caspian Tern check for a band on the left leg bearing a number and the Environment Australia address. Please forward the details of the bird number and location to EA to assist in maintaining records of numbers and migratory patterns of Australian birds.
