Canoe SA Membership Categories

Membership, Definitions and Conditions:

Junior member

Description: persons under the age of 18 years old as of the 1 July in the year of membership who reside in South Australia.
 
Definition:
A junior member is a person whose principal place of residence is in South Australia and is under the age of 18 as of the 1 July in the year of membership
 
Membership rights:
Full voting rights at all association general meetings
Eligible  to enter any discipline competition in Australia
Eligible for selection to SA and Australian national teams
 

Adult or Senior member

Description: persons over age of 18 as of the 1 July in the year of membership who reside in South Australia.
 
Definition:
An Adult member is a person who’s principal place of residence is in South Australia and is over the age of 18 as of the 1 July in the year of membership
Membership rights:
Full voting rights at all association general meetings
Eligibility to enter any discipline competition in SA
Eligible to enter SA and Australian national competitions for all disciplines
Eligible for selection to SA and Australian national teams
 

Family membership

Description: This is a new membership category to encourage Family membership commenced in 2013/14 financial year and is for adults and children/full-time students U 25 that reside at the same residence as a family
It may be made up of combinations such as:
2 adults (parents) and any number of their children/full time students U 25
1 adult (parent) and any number of their children/full time students U 25
Family membership may include blended families provided that they reside at the same residence.
 
Definition:
Family membership may include up to 2 adults and an unlimited number of children under the age of 18 or full-time students under the age of 25 as at 1 July in any year. Family membership is for families that reside at the same residential address.
Adults and full-time students over 18 yrs old have voting rights at all General meetings of the assosciation
 

Life member

Description: Existing category provided for in the constitution at cl 7.1
 
Definition:
A life member is a member that has had life membership conferred on them (according to clause 7.1 of the constitution)
Life members have voting rights at all general meetings of the association.
 

Instructor/Guide

Description: Constitution provides for this category by way of registration under the Australian Canoeing Award Scheme (ACAS) but there is no additional charge for membership of Canoe SA. Affiliated Clubs may charge a membership fee for Instructor/Guide.
 
Definition:
An Instructor/Guide includes all Australian Canoeing Award Scheme qualified Instructors, Guides, Lifeguards who reside in South Australia.
An Instructor/Guide member does not have voting rights at Canoe SA general meetings as per constitution (cl 7.2). provided that an member in this category who is also a member of an affiliated club has membership rights as conferred by that membership.
 

Volunteer

Description: This category is to provide recognition to volunteers within clubs or the association (CSA). It also allows for the development of a volunteer database of skills.
 
Definition:
A volunteer member is a non-paddling member of an affiliated canoe club who provides volunteer support for the club or association.
A Volunteer member does not have voting rights at Canoe SA general meetings, etc as per constitution (cl 7.2).
 

Introductory Member

Description: The category allows for the introduction of people to the sport for a short period on a trial basis. An Introductory membership is a once only trial membership of 3 months.Where full years Individual membership is taken out within the 12 month period the Introductory membership fee is deducted from the full years membership fee. Clubs may charge a separate fee for membership.Full membership to be taken out within 1 month of expiry of the Into membership to gain benefit.
No Voting rights at Canoe SA general meetings
 
Definition:
An introductory member is a person who has paid a fee to Canoe SA for membership on a trial basis. Introductory membership does not exceed 3 months from the date of commencing the trial membership.
Where an introductory member decides to continue membership in the same financial year and takes out a full membership the fee for the introductory membership is deducted from the full year membership.
An Introductory member does not have voting rights at Canoe SA general meetings, etc as per constitution (cl 7.2).
 

Event member

Description: As opposed to the "Introductory membership” which allows constant, unlimited participation for the three month period, the Event member is to pay and sign for each activity they enter.
Event members payment of fee is time limited to the actual event.
An individual person may have no more than 2 event memberships in 3 years
No voting rights.
Where Full membership is taken out no later than 1 month after the expiry of the Event membership the event membership would be deducted from the full year membership This only applies to a Full membership and does not apply to other membership categories (eg: a person who takes out an Event membership would not have the Event membership deducted from say an Introductory membership)
 
Definition:
An Event membership means a membership covering a Canoe SA sanctioned event/competition/race/activity which may be greater than 24 hours duration but does not exceed 72 hours or 3 days
Conditions:
An event member does not have voting rights at Canoe SA meetings, etc as per constitution (cl 7.2).
An individual may have no more than 2 event memberships in a 3 year period.
 

Single Day Licence

Description: Single Day Licence membership may be used for activities/events such as Come’n try, or one-off activities marketed to the public for the purpose of trialing the sport.
Where a single day licence is used for a Come & try, sometimes the cost will be picked up by Canoe SA, it allows the association to put a figure on the cost of providing a service to a discipline or club. This is necessary for reporting purposes
 
Definition:
Single day licence is membership for a person who enters a Canoe SA sanctioned race/competition which is less than 24 hours duration.
 
Conditions:
Provided that:
1.                   There are no voting rights at an AGM or a Special General Meeting with single day licence membership, and
2.                   An individual may have no more than 6 single day licence memberships in a 1 year period,
3.                   A person who enters a state championship (eg: sprint, marathon, canoe polo) must be a full member of an Australian Canoeing affiliated canoe club
