Flatwater Canoe/Kayak is one of the best-known competitive canoeing disciplines in Australia. It is also one of Australia’s most successful sports at the Olympic Games with Australians winning one or more medals at every Olympics since 1980. Flatwater events range from 200m to marathon in singles (C1, K1), doubles (C2, K2) and fours (C4, K4).

There are significant differences between the two disciplines;

Canoe

  • Kneeling
  • Single-bladed paddle
  • No rudder (steer with paddle)

Kayak

  • Seated
  • Double-bladed paddle
  • Rudder for steering
